IL: 2 hospitalized following multi-vehicle crash at Salem intersection

MARION COUNTY, IL – A driver ran a red light Saturday afternoon in Salem, causing a three-vehicle collision that sent two people to the hospital, according to WJBD.

The accident unfolded in the area of West Main and Selmaville Road at around 12:00 p.m.

A preliminary investigation found that a 30-year-old Kinmundy resident ran a red light while traveling eastbound on West Main, causing their vehicle to strike the driver’s side of a pickup truck driven by a local resident. Officials say the pickup, which had been moving from US Highway 50 to Selmaville Road, rotated in the impact of the crash and collided with a third vehicle that was stopped at the intersection.

Salem Fire Protection District crews worked to extricate the driver of the pickup, who was left trapped in the wreckage. Both the driver and his passenger, a 43-year-old Salem resident, were both transported to Salem Township Hospital for unspecified injuries.

Both the driver of the causing car and the driver of the third vehicle, a juvenile, declined treatment at the hospital.

Salem Police indicated that the driver of the first vehicle is expected receive a ticket for their role in the wreck.
