HARTFORD, IL – According to First Alert 4, a patient stole an ambulance and crashed near Illinois 111 and Wagon Wheel Road on Thursday.
The patient was being transported to a hospital in Granite City when the vehicle was stolen sometime on Thursday morning.
A Madison County deputy saw the ambulance and chased it. Other agencies joined in on the pursuit.
A South Roxana officer used stop strips. The ambulance driver crashed while trying to go around the strips.
Authorities arrested the driver. The driver was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
