IL: Police investigate van vs. gas tank truck collision on W Main St in Salem

SALEM, IL – According to WJBD, the Salem Police Department is investigating a crash between a van and a gas tank truck that occurred on W Main St near Selmaville Road on Sunday.

At 10:52 a.m., a 72-year-old woman was driving a van beside the gas tank truck when W Main St narrowed to one lane. She then tried to pass the truck on the shoulder, striking the front bumper as she tried to pull out in front of it.

The 45-year-old man driving the truck drug the van until he was able to brake. The van then crashed into a ditch.

Rescue crews assisted the van driver and her 73-year-old female passenger out of the van and transported them to an area hospital.

The truck driver was not hurt in the collision.
