IL: Pursuit of Teen Driver on Illinois Route 13 Ends in Crash in Construction Zone

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, IL – A teenage driver crashed after trying to elude law enforcement authorities in Southern Illinois on Thursday afternoon, WSIL reported.

The Williamson County Sheriff said that Illinois State Police tried to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle sometime between 2:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.   The driver, a 15-year-old female, refused to pull over and took off on Illinois Route 13 heading westbound, the sheriff said.

As the driver weaved in and out of traffic at high speed, deputies with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office joined the pursuit.  At one point the fleeing driver sideswiped another car before continuing on and eventually crashing into a construction zone near Crab Orchard Lake.

The driver was taken to an area hospital as a precaution but did not appear to have been seriously hurt.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
