IL: Teen passenger injured in crash after car hydroplanes near north Salem

MARION COUNTY, IL – A vehicle hydroplaned and crashed on Townhouse Road near north Salem late Sunday afternoon, leaving two occupants trapped, according to WJBD.

Marion County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene in the 3300 block of the road, shortly before 5:00 p.m.

Preliminary details indicate a 17-year-old Salem resident was driving westbound when she lost control of her car after failing to negotiate a curve. Officials said the car hydroplaned before running off the north side of the roadway.

While the teen driver and her passenger, an 18-year-old man, were initially reported trapped, both occupants had self-extricated by the time Salem Fire Protection District crews arrived on the scene.

The teen passenger was reported injured, but the severity of his condition was not immediately disclosed.
