IL: Woman Arrested in Marion County Hit-and-Run That Injured Bicyclist

MARION COUNTY, IL – Authorities say the suspected driver in a hit-and-run incident southwest of Salem last month has been arrested, according to WJBD.

A bicycle rider was injured in the March 25th collision that occurred at 7:38 p.m. on Selmaville Road near Lowery Lane.  The Marion County Sheriff’s Department said a 27-year-old Centralia woman was riding a bicycle on the white line along the shoulder of the road when she was clipped by the mirror of a passing maroon minivan that left the scene.  The van was last seen heading south on Selmaville Road.

The bicyclist was transported to Salem Township Hospital for treatment of arm injuries.  The sheriff’s department said they have arrested the person alleged to have been the driver, a 63-year-old woman from Odin.

The suspect was apprehended as the result of a tip from the public, and was given a notice to appear in court for leaving the scene of an accident.  She was reported to have told deputies she did not stop following the crash because she did not realize she had hit anyone.
