KC: 1 injured in hit-and-run collision on I-470 SB near Lee’s Summit

JACKSON COUNTY, MO — A hit-and-run crash Thursday morning on Interstate 470 near Lee’s Summit left a 60-year-old woman injured, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The incident unfolded on the southbound lanes of I-470 north of Woods Chapel Road (Exit 12), at about 7:50 a.m.

Preliminary details indicate a 20-year-old man from Independence was driving a 2004 Ford F-150 pickup truck southbound when he tried to overtake a southbound 2018 Hyundai Elantra driven by the victim, a Kansas City resident. Officials say that after the Ford rear-ended the Hyundai, the young man fled the scene but was later located.

The driver of the Hyundai, who was found to have not been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, suffered minor injuries. She was transported to Centerpoint Medical Center by crews with Lee’s Summit Fire.

No information regarding pending charges has been disclosed at this time.
