KC: 2 hospitalized after head-on collision on MO-23 in Johnson County

JOHNSON COUNTY, MO — Two drivers were injured Monday afternoon as a result of a wrong-way crash on Northeast 23 Highway near Knob Noster, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol traffic crash report.

The accident unfolded on the northbound lanes of MO-23, north of Northeast 500 Road and southeast of Kansas City. It was first reported at around 2:38 p.m.

Preliminary details indicate 47-year-old of St. Joseph, was driving a 2015 Toyota Sienna southbound in the northbound highway when the Toyota hit an oncoming 2010 Ford Escape head-on.

Both the Toyota driver and the other driver, 40-year-old of Concordia, were transported to Western Missouri Medical Center for moderate injuries.

Both vehicles were totaled in the collision and had to be towed from the scene.

At this time, officials have not disclosed any information regarding the cause of the crash.
