KC: 2 injured in chain-reaction crash on I-470 near Lee’s Summit

JACKSON COUNTY, MO — Two people were sent to a hospital, one with serious injuries, Monday evening following a collision on Interstate 470 near northeast Lee’s Summit, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The accident happened on the northbound lanes of I-470 at mile marker 12, just north of 83rd Street/Northeast Strother Road.

An early investigation indicates that a 22-year-old Blue Springs woman was driving a 2008 Ford Escape northbound when the car hit the back of a northbound 2018 Ford Explorer driven by a 39-year-old Grain Valley man. The impact sent the Ford Explorer crashing into a 2007 Saturn Aura before it ran off the left side of the roadway and hit the cable barriers. Meanwhile, the Ford Escape traveled off the roadway’s right side.

Lee’s Summit Fire crews had the driver of the Ford Escape and a 5-year-old occupant of the Ford Explorer transported to Centerpoint Medical Center and Children’s Mercy Hospital, for serious and minor injuries, respectively.

At this time, no pending charges have been reported.
