KC: 2 Injured in Five-Vehicle Crash Involving Big Rig in Mayview

MAYVIEW, MO – Two people were injured in a five-vehicle crash involving a big rig in Mayview last Friday, July 19.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred before 9 p.m. on Interstate 70 West, approximately 45 miles east of Kansas City. MSHP said several vehicles, which included a 2022 Freightliner, collided after reducing their speed for a 2011 Ford Fiesta that had stopped in the left lane.

The driver of the 2011 Ford Fiesta, a 43-year-old man from O’Fallon, and a passenger of a 2023 Kia Sportage, a 46-year-old woman from La Vista, Nebraska, sustained minor injuries.

Odessa EMS took the female passenger to Centerpoint, and Higginsville EMS brought the Ford driver to the same hospital.

The other vehicles involved were a 1998 Chevrolet Suburban and a 2016 Toyota 4Runner. All other drivers/occupants were uninjured.

MSHP has not said why the Ford Fiesta was stopped in the middle of traffic or whether they cited the Ford driver.
