KC: 3 left injured after collision on US-50 in Johnson County

JOHNSON COUNTY, MO — Three people were sent to a hospital late Thursday afternoon following a two-vehicle wreck on U.S. Highway 50 in Syracuse, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The accident unfolded on the eastbound lanes at Highway D (Broadway Street) and was first reported at about 4:35 p.m.

Preliminary details show a 20-year-old Warrensburg woman was driving a 2007 Dodge eastbound when she stopped the car in the left lane in anticipation of turning at a crossover that was at the time occupied by another vehicle. At one point, an 18-year-old Sedalia woman behind the wheel of an eastbound 2016 Ford tried to overtake the Dodge but ended up causing a collision between the two vehicles.

Both the driver of the Ford, along with her passenger, a 49-year-old woman also from Warrensburg, were transported by ambulance to Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg with injuries deemed moderate. The driver of the Ford was also taken to the same hospital for injuries considered minor.

Officials did not indicate whether any charges or citations are expected following the incident.
