KC: 4-Year-Old Boy Struck and Killed by Amazon Delivery Truck in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, MO – Police are investigating the death of a young boy who was fatally struck by an Amazon delivery truck in Kansas City on Monday night, KSHB reported.

Preliminary details indicated that the driver of the Amazon van had just delivered a package in the area at about 6:30 p.m. and was driving west on E.  3rd Terrace.  At the same time, a 4-year-old boy who had been playing in nearby Maple Park ran out into the roadway near Woodland Avenue, and was hit by the vehicle and killed.

A family member followed the Amazon driver to report what had happened, but police said the driver denied involvement and left the area.

Police said a subject of interest was later identified and taken into custody for further investigation.

Amazon and the local third-party delivery driving company are cooperating with the ongoing investigation, police said.

“Our deepest sympathies are with the child’s family during this incredibly difficult time,” an Amazon spokesperson said in a statement Tuesday to KSHB 41 News. “We’ll cooperate fully with the Kansas City Police Department in their active investigation and defer to them for additional details.”

Police said they are gathering evidence that will be presented to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office, which will determine whether to charge the driver.
