KC: Car vs box truck crash claims 2 lives, leaves 1 critically hurt on I-435 in NE Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, MO – Two people lost their lives Sunday morning as a result of a rear-end collision involving a box truck on Interstate 435 in northeast Kansas City, reports FOX4KC.

The accident unfolded on the northbound lanes of I-435 approaching Missouri State Highway 210.

According to a preliminary investigation, two people were traveling in a white Ford Fusion heading northbound in lane 3. Officials say that at one point, for reasons still unclear, the Ford may have slowed down or come to a stop in the lane before the vehicle was struck from the back by a white Hino box truck.

First responders pronounced the Ford driver and their rear-seat passenger deceased at the scene.

The Ford’s front-seat passenger was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition, while the driver of the box truck was also transported to the hospital with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.

Crews had at least part of the northbound interstate was shut down during various intervals for the four hours following the incident.
