KC: Child dies following multi-injury crash on 23rd St Trafficway in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, MO — An 8-year-old girl succumbed to injuries suffered in a crash Monday, February 5, in southeast Kansas City that left two other people hospitalized, reports KCTV5.

The accident unfolded on a stretch of 23rd Street Trafficway at Stark Avenue, just before 5:00 p.m.

Kansas City, Missouri Police Department officials said the child was traveling in a maroon Chevrolet suburban when the vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway and onto a dirt shoulder. As she overcorrected, the vehicle crossed the center median before its passenger side was hit by a blue Ford F-150 traveling westbound.

Both the driver and the girl, along with the driver of the Ford, were all transported to local hospitals with critical injuries.

Officials confirmed that on Thursday morning, February 8, the child was pronounced deceased. Her family says she was taken off life support after two different brain tests showed no activity.

According to the driver’s family, she is in stable condition but suffers from serious injuries, including a fractured pelvis and spine.

No updates on the condition of the Ford driver have been released.

An investigation remains open and ongoing. The KCPD has not released any information about the cause of the accident, but the driver has said that a pothole in the roadway caused her to lose control of the vehicle.
