KC: Collision on Icy Roadway in Lafayette County Kills 1, Injures 4

LAFAYETTE COUNTY, MO – One person was killed and four others injured in a wreck in Lafayette County Friday evening, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The head-on collision occurred on U.S. 65 at about 6:30 p.m. The MSHP’s preliminary investigation determined that the driver of a 2009 Ford Focus was heading south when she lost control on the ice-covered roadway.  The car crossed over the center line and struck a northbound 2021 Ford Explorer.

The driver of the Ford, a 28-year-old woman from Marshall, Missouri, was pronounced dead at the scene.  She was wearing a seat belt when the crash occurred.

The four people in the Explorer, all from Chillicothe, Missouri, were transported to Carroll County Memorial Hospital.   The driver, a 32-year-old woman, and a passenger, a 35-year-old man, suffered moderate injuries.  Two children, a 4-year-old boy and a 2-year-old girl, sustained minor injuries.  All four were wearing their seat belts in the car.

The Lafayette and Saline County Sheriff’s Offices assisted in the investigation.
