KC: Driver hurt in rear-end crash on I-470 near Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport

JACKSON COUNTY, MO — A 43-year-old woman was injured Tuesday evening when her car rear-ended another vehicle on Interstate 470 near northeast Lee’s Summit, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report.

The accident happened on a stretch of the northbound highway at mile marker 10.2, a little north of Northeast Colbern Road and just southeast of Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport. It was first reported at about 5:14 p.m.

A preliminary investigation found that the woman, of Independence, was behind the wheel of a 2008 Chrysler heading northbound. At one point, while trying to overtake a 2008 Pontiac, she caused the Chrysler to hit the back of the other car, driven by a 41-year-old Blue Springs man.

The crash report indicates that the driver of the Chrysler was driven to St. Luke’s East Hospital in a private vehicle for minor injuries.

The Chrysler, which was totaled, had to be towed from the scene, while the Pontiac, which received minor damage, was able to be driven from the area by the other driver.
