KC: Driver killed in crash after fleeing traffic stop in Kansas City’s East Side

KANSAS CITY, MO — One person lost their life early last Friday morning, February 23, after crashing a stolen pickup truck near Linwood Green Park in Kansas City, according to KCTV5.

The accident happened on a stretch of Van Brunt Boulevard and was first reported by the Kansas City Police Department at about 1:00 a.m.

Authorities say officers tried to conduct a traffic stop on a gray Ford F-150, which was reported stolen, at the intersection of Linwood Boulevard and Van Brunt Boulevard. When its driver fled the scene, law enforcement officials reportedly called off the police pursuit out of concern for safety.

Shortly after the pickup sped north on Van Brunt Boulevard and failed to negotiate a curve, it veered to the right of the roadway and flipped.

The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and who was ejected, died from their injuries at the scene, confirmed officials.

An investigation remains underway.
