KC: Driver seriously hurt in single-car crash on I-470 EB near Lee’s Summit

JACKSON COUNTY, MO — A 53-year-old man was hospitalized with serious injuries Monday morning after crashing his car into a median on Interstate 470 near Lee’s Summit, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The accident unfolded on the eastbound lanes at Exit 71 to Northwest Pryor Road, in an area just southeast of Kansas City. It was first reported at 7:44 a.m.

The MSHP crash report indicates a Blue Springs resident was operating a 2014 Buick LaCrosse when it veered off the left side of the roadway and collided with a median barrier.

It’s unclear what caused the wreck, but Lee’s Summit EMS personnel had him rushed to Centerpoint Hospital for serious injuries. Officials noted he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

The Buick LaCrosse, which was totaled in the incident, was towed from the scene.
