KANSAS CITY, MO – A fleeing driver was involved in a fatal multi-vehicle crash in Kansas City on New Year’s Eve, according to the Kansas City Star.
The incident began to unfold at about 8:15 p.m. when police in Independence set out in pursuit of a Ford F-250 for multiple traffic violations in the Sheffield neighborhood. It was later determined that the vehicle had been stolen.
Police said the suspect driving the Ford went through a red traffic signal while heading west on 9th Street. The Ford then collided with another pickup that was going south on Benton Boulevard. The Ford also crashed into an eastbound Nissan Cube that was stopped at the traffic signal, then collided with an RV that was parked on private property.
The Ford driver fled the scene on foot. The Nissan driver was pronounced dead the next morning, while two passengers in the Nissan were hospitalized with critical injuries. The driver of the pickup truck that was hit sustained minor injuries.
No arrests have been made in the case, which remains under investigation.
