MO: 2 killed in rear-end crash on US-60 near Essex

STODDARD COUNTY, MO – Two people from Sikeston died Thursday night as a result of a two-vehicle collision on U.S. Highway 60 near Essex, reports WSILTV.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) said the fatal wreck occurred on a stretch of US-60 about three miles east of the city.

Preliminary details show a 19-year-old Neosho resident was driving a 2013 Ford Fusion eastbound on the highway when the car struck the back of a 2015 Fiat 500, also traveling eastbound. The impact sent both vehicles veering off the right side of the roadway.

First responders pronounced the driver and one passenger of the Fiat, aged 65 and 81, respectively, deceased at the scene. One other passenger from the vehicle, a 44-year-old Dexter resident, sustained minor injuries. They were transported to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

At this time, no information about the condition of the Ford driver has been disclosed, and no pending charges have been reported.

Officials indicated that both vehicles received total damages and had to be towed from the crash site.
