MO: Motorcyclist hit, injured by SUV on I-49 Business in Newton County

NEWTON COUNTY, MO – A 23-year-old man was hospitalized Thursday morning after being struck by a vehicle while operating a motorcycle on Intestate 49 Business Loop near south Joplin, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The collision took place on the southbound lanes of I-49, about four miles south of the city, at around 7:30 a.m.

Officials say the victim was on a 2016 Yamaha Sport Bike traveling southbound when the motorcycle was hit from the back by a 2000 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by a 19-year-old Goodman woman.

First responders had the rider transported to Freeman West Hospital via ambulance for injuries believed to be moderate.

The bike sustained total damage and was towed from the scene, as was the Chevrolet, which received moderate damage.

No charges have been confirmed at this time.
