MO: Motorcyclist seriously hurt in crash with Jeep at Newton County intersection

NEWTON COUNTY, MO — A 51-year-old man was transported to a hospital for serious injuries Tuesday evening after being hit by a vehicle while on a motorcycle near west Joplin, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The incident took place at the intersection of Rose Lane and Cherry Road and was first reported at 7:08 p.m.

Officials say the victim, a local resident, was operating a 2004 Harley Davidson southbound when he stopped in the roadway with an uninvolved vehicle for unknown reasons. Shortly after, a 2021 Jeep Renegade, driven by a 73-year-old man, also of Joplin, struck the motorcycle.

The rider, who suffered serious injuries, was transported to Freeman West Hospital in Joplin. No other information about his condition has been made available.
