MO: Teenage Driver Hurt After Colliding With Semi-Truck on Interstate 35

ST. JOSEPH, MO – A collision on Interstate 35 in Harrison County left a teenage driver hospitalized Tuesday evening, according to News-Press Now.

The crash, involving an SUV and a semi-truck, took place on I-35 south near Bethany at about 5:20 p.m.   The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that a 16-year-old girl was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Impala when she overcorrected while trying to change lanes to avoid a 2000 Kenworth semi-truck ahead of her.

The Chevy collided with the driver’s side of the semi and then went off the east side of the interstate before coming to rest upright.  The Chevy driver, a resident of Coffey, Missouri, suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Harrison County Community Hospital.  No injuries were reported for the truck driver, a 71-year-old man from Ottuma, Iowa.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts when the accident occurred.
