STL: 2 injured in multi-vehicle wreck on I-64 near Mercy Hospital St. Louis

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO – Two people were hurt, one seriously, late Monday afternoon due to a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 64 near west St. Louis, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The accident happened on the westbound lanes west of South New Ballas Road, near Mercy Hospital St. Louis and Missouri Baptist Medical Center. It was first reported at around 4:20 p.m.

Officials say a 31-year-old Troy woman was driving a 2022 Ford Escape westbound behind a 45-year-old St. Louis woman woman who was also westbound, driving a 2020 Toyota Camry. Not long after both vehicles slowed down and stopped in traffic because of congestion ahead, a 65-year-old O’Fallon woman who was following too closely behind the Ford Escape in a 2018 Honda CRV rear-ended the vehicle. The impact caused the Ford to skid and for its front-end to strike the back of the Toyota Corolla.

Frontenac Fire Department crews had both drivers of the Honda CRV and the Ford Escape transported to Mercy Hospital St. Louis for minor and serious injuries, respectively.

While the Toyota Camry driver, who was not hurt, was able to drive her car from the scene, the Ford and the Honda had to be towed.
