STL: 2 injured in rear-end collision on I-270 WB near Florissant

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO – Two people were hurt, one seriously, Tuesday night as a result of a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 270 near southeast Florissant, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The accident happened on the westbound lanes of I-270 at West Florissant Avenue, near the Clocktower Place shopping mall. It was first reported at 9:19 p.m.

Preliminary details indicate a 42-year-old man from Belleville, Illinois, was driving a 2017 Nissan Pathfinder westbound in lane 3, behind a 2020 Freightliner Cascadia. Officials said the Illinois man was distracted and “failed to keep a proper lookout” for the semi. At one point, the front-end of the Nissan collided with the Freightliner’s rear-end.

Christian Northeast Ambulance crews rushed the driver of the Nissan to Barnes Jewish Hospital for serious injuries.

The driver of the Freightliner, a 31-year-old man from Elk Grove, California, sustained minor injuries. He was transported to Mercy Hospital St. Louis.

The Nissan and the Freightliner received total and extensive damages, respectively, and required towage from the scene.
