STL: 2 injured in rear-end collision on I-55 near Imperial

JEFFERSON COUNTY, MO — Two people were hospitalized early Wednesday after their vehicles collided at the scene of a previous crash on Interstate 55 near Imperial, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report.

Officials said the series of events unfolded on the northbound lanes north of Imperial Main Street at about 2:15 a.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates an 18-year-old Fenton woman was driving a 2004 Ford Escape northbound when she was involved in a crash that left the Ford blocking lanes 1 and 2 of the northbound interstate and without an exterior lighting. Moments later, a 25-year-old Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, man was driving a 2025 Volkswagen Taos northbound in lane 1 when he failed to see the Ford in the northbound lanes. Moments later, the front of the Volkswagen collided with the right back side of the Ford Escape.

Rock Township Ambulance District crews rushed both the Fenton woman and the Arkansas man to Mercy Hospital South with moderate and serious injuries, respectively.

Both vehicles received total and extensive damages, requiring towage from the scene.
