STL: 2 sent to hospital after two-vehicle wreck on I-70 in St. Charles

ST. CHARLES COUNTY, MO – Two people from Columbia were injured Monday night as a result of a collision on Interstate 70 in St. Charles, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Officials said the crash happened on the westbound lanes east of 5th Street, at about 10:03 p.m.

A 20-year-old man from St. Louis was driving a 2021 Chevrolet Malibu westbound in Lane 1 of the interstate at the same time a 2016 Kia Soul was traveling westbound in Lane 2. At one point, the Chevrolet failed to maintain its lane and entered Lane 2, where its right-front hit the left-rear of the Kia. Both vehicles came to a stop facing west and blocking lanes 4 and 1.

The driver of the Kia, a 56-year-old man, as well as his passenger, a 51-year-old woman, both of Columbia, suffered moderate injuries. Both occupants were transported by Pattonville Fire Protection District crews to SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital – St. Charles.

No injuries to the Chevrolet driver or anyone else were reported.

The MSHP crash report indicates that both vehicles sustained moderate damage and had to be towed fro the crash site.

No charges have been reported at this time.
