STL: Bicyclist hit, injured by pickup truck on US-61 in Ste. Genevieve County

STE. GENEVIEVE COUNTY, MO – A 60-year-old man was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle while riding a bike late Wednesday morning on U.S. Highway 61 in Ste. Genevieve, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The incident occurred on the southbound lanes of US-61 north of Lime Kiln Road and was first reported by the MSHP at 11:42 a.m.

Preliminary details show an 18-year-old Bloomsdale resident was driving a 1996 Ford F250 southbound. At one point, while trying to avoid striking the cyclist by braking and veering to the right, the front of the pickup hit the back of the victim’s bike.

Ste. Genevieve County Ambulance crews had the cyclist rushed to Mercy Hospital South for injuries described as “moderate.”
