ST. LOUIS, MO – A driver fleeing from police crashed into a restaurant in St. Louis on Monday, First Alert 4 reported.
The incident began to unfold shortly before noon, when detectives with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department pursued a man who was driving a stolen car near downtown. Police tried to use spike strips to stop the car but the driver kept going before losing control. The vehicle struck a fire department ambulance and then slammed into Vinh Chop Suey restaurant on North Broadway near Halls Ferry Road.
The crash caused an employee to be splashed with hot cooking oil. The driver, age 40, was taken to the hospital and then arrested on multiple charges including aggravated fleeing and property damage.
The building had to be condemned, forcing the temporary closure of the restaurant that has been in business for nearly 50 years.
