STL: Driver injured in crash while fleeing traffic stop on I-44 near Pacific

FRANKLIN COUNTY, MO — A 36-year-old St. Louis man was hospitalized early Thursday following a single-vehicle wreck on Interstate 44 near Pacific, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The collision unfolded on the Exit 256 ramp connecting eastbound I-44 to Lamar Parkway. It was first reported at about 1:08 a.m.

Preliminary details show a man was driving a 199 Ford Explorer eastbound when he fled an attempted traffic stop. After entering the ramp, he failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, causing the vehicle to hit a concrete traffic barrier.

The man, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the impact, suffered moderate injuries. He was transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital Washington.

The Ford Explorer, which was totaled in the accident, was towed from the scene.
