STL: Driver injured in rear-end crash on I-44 WB near Kirkwood

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO — A 31-year-old man was hospitalized following a two-vehicle wreck Wednesday evening on Interstate 44 near Kirkwood, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The collision unfolded on the westbound lanes of I-44, west of Big Bend Road, in an area just southwest of St. Louis. It was first reported at 5:25 p.m.

Preliminary details indicate the victim, of High Ridge, was driving a 2017 Nissan Sentra westbound and was closely following behind a westbound 2022 Chevy Trax. At one point, he failed to maintain a “proper lookout,” causing the Nissan to hit the back of the Chevy.

Crestwood Ambulance District crews had him transported to Mercy Hospital South for moderate injuries.

The driver of the Chevy Trax, a 22-year-old Pevely man, was not reported hurt.
