STL: Driver sentenced for deadly hit-and-run crash on Chippewa St in 2022

ST. LOUIS, MO – A man was sentenced Friday for a deadly hit-and-run collision that occurred near Ted Drewes Frozen Custard at 6726 Chippewa St on July 29, 2022, according to FOX 2 Now.

A 27-year-old man was allegedly driving a pickup truck when he struck a 17-year-old male who was walking across the street. The collision threw the victim into the path of another car, which also hit him.

Following the collision, the second driver remained at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement.

Witnesses told officers that the 27-year-old man stopped, exited his truck, and walked to the scene without identifying himself before driving off.

Authorities believe the 27-year-old man took his pickup truck to a repair shop the following day to cover the damage.

The body shop manager called the police after seeing police seeing the pictures of the truck they posted online.

The driver turned himself in to police the next week.

The driver initially pleaded not guilty but changed his plea to guilty at the plea hearing. He was sentenced to 5 years and 4 years on charges of tampering with physical evidence and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.
