STL: Infant, 2 others injured in broadside crash on I-55 SB near SW St. Louis

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO — Three people, including a newborn child, were hurt Tuesday morning due to a two-vehicle wreck on Interstate 55 near southwest St. Louis, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report.

The accident happened on the southbound side of I-55, south of Weber Road, at about 8:28 a.m.

Preliminary details show a 63-year-old St. Louis man was driving a 2010 Ford Ranger southbound when he turned into the path of a 2021 Volkswagen Atlas driven by a 38-year-old woman, also of St. Louis. The move caused the Volkswagen to collide with the side of the Ford.

Authorities said the driver of the Ford, who suffered serious injuries, was transported to SSM St. Louis University Hospital by Afton Fire Protection District crews.

The driver of the Volkswagen was transported from the scene in a private conveyance with minor injuries, and her passenger, a newborn baby boy, was transported to St Louis Children’s Hospital by Lemay Fire Protection District.

Both vehicles were totaled in the collision and had to be towed from the crash site.
