ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO – A man was killed in an accident on Interstate 64 in St. Louis County last week, according to a KSDK report.
The April 23 incident took place in the eastbound lanes of I-64 at the exit for Interstate 270 at about 1:34 p.m.
A preliminary investigation indicated that two tires fell from a towed unit on a tractor-trailer. The tires struck the concrete median, flew in the air, and went through the roof top of a Chevrolet Bolt on I-64.
The driver of the Bolt, a 73-year-old man from Richmond Heights, was struck by a tire and was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital. The driver of the tractor-trailer remained at the scene.
The interstate was closed for over two hours while the scene was being cleared and investigated, snarling traffic for miles. The cause of the fatal accident remains under investigation.
