STL: Mother, daughter fatally hit in multi-car crash following concert in downtown St. Louis

ST. LOUIS, MO — Two Chicago women were killed in downtown St. Louis early Wednesday morning when a speeding Jeep slammed into them while they were walking in a crosswalk, according to KSDK.

St. Louis Metropolitan Police said the fatal incident unfolded at the intersection of North 18th and Olive streets. KSDK observed that the scene was only a few blocks away from the Enterprise Center, where thousands of people had just left a Drake and J. Cole concert.

A preliminary investigation indicates that a 22-year-old man was driving a Jeep at a high rate of speed and was running a number of red lights in the area. At one point, the Jeep sideswiped another vehicle’s front-end, causing the Jeep to rotate clockwise and strike the two women, who were using a nearby crosswalk. The Jeep then proceeded forward until it T-boned another car.

First responders pronounced that one of the victims, identified only as a 42-year-old woman, died at the scene. The other woman, the 21-year-old daughter of the first, was rushed to an area hospital where she also later succumbed to her injuries.

The Jeep driver also suffered critical injuries and was transported to the hospital.

Three other people, including two teenage passengers in one car and the driver of another car, all sustained minor injuries. It was unclear whether those patients had to be taken to a hospital.

An ongoing investigation is being conducted by the SLMPD’s Accident Reconstruction team.
