STL: Teen driver seriously hurt in head-on crash on Route U near Troy

LINCOLN COUNTY, MO — An 18-year-old driver was hospitalized Tuesday night following a two-vehicle crash on East State Highway U near Troy, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The accident unfolded on a span of the westbound highway east of Spielhagen Road at around 8:05 p.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates the teen, of Old Monroe, was driving a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe eastbound at the same time a 34-year-old man from Brooklyn, New York, was driving a 2023 Dodge Ram 3500 westbound. At one point, the Hyundai veered off the right side of the roadway. As the teen tried to overcorrect, the Hyundai crossed the roadway’s centerline and collided with the front of the Dodge Ram.

First responders rushed the teen driver by ambulance to SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital Lake St. Louis for serious injuries.
