STL: Woman hurt in crash after improper lane change on I-270 near Hazelwood

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO – A two-vehicle collision Friday morning near Hazelwood left a 31-year-old woman injured, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The accident took place on the westbound lanes of I-270 at U.S. Highway 67 and was first reported at 7:50 a.m.

A preliminary investigation found that the victim, a St. Charles resident, was driving a 2019 Chevrolet Cruze westbound in lane 3 of I-270 at the same time a 37-year-old Cincinnati, Ohio, resident was driving a 2011 Freightliner FLD120 westbound in lane 2.

At one point, the truck driver made an improper lane change to the right, causing the vehicle’s front-right to hit the rear-left of the Chevrolet. The impact caused the Chevrolet to slide and spin counterclockwise, into the path of the Freightliner. The front of the Freightliner then collided with the left side of the Chevrolet before coming to rest on the right shoulder of I-270. The Chevrolet came to a stop blocking lame 1 and facing northeast.

Hazelwood Fire Department crews transported the driver of the Chevrolet to SSM Health DePaul Hospital for moderate injuries.

Despite the injury to the Chevrolet driver, both vehicles received minor damage. The Chevrolet had to be towed from the scene.

No charges have been reported as of this writing.
